A few years ago an unprecedented brain drain began in Spain. Young people with university degrees who, once they had finished their studies, moved abroad to work and improve their languages. And people without degrees too, who because of the crisis decided to try their luck just as our grandparents did in their day.

But life in Spain is very good, and in Valencia even better. Your roots pull at you, and so does the food, the climate, family and friends. Some stayed away, others came back. After 5, 7, even 10 or 15 years, they have returned. And on their return they have found the incredible feeling of living again in such a wonderful city, but with one big drawback. They struggle to find a way to keep practising the language they learned. And the truth is that a language dies if it is not practised (which is why Latin and Ancient Greek, for example, are called dead languages). And that is as true as the fact that you are reading this article. But do not worry, we have good news for you.

Talk out loud to yourself: just as you do in your mother tongue, do it in that other language. Imagine conversations, imagine situations, and go for it. Ask yourself questions and answer them. Talk to yourself for at least ten minutes a day, about your work, about the children, about food… About anything at all, but do not lose everything you worked so hard for.

Watch films and series in the language you do not want to forget: You almost certainly have the option of watching them in that language, all the more so nowadays with all the streaming platforms there are.

Go to classes: Many people think they will not learn anything new, but that is not the case. Depending on your level you will join one group or another, but just as happened when you were abroad, every day you can learn something new.
