December is a beautiful time of year to go to London on holiday. Lights, decorations, shopping and, above all, Christmas markets everywhere. This week we want to give you a few tips so that you set off well prepared and make the most of your trip over the Christmas break.
Wrap up warm, but in layers
London is a beautiful city, but also a very cold one. Our recommendation is to take a hat, a scarf, good warm shoes and a decent coat. But be careful: do not forget to wear something short-sleeved or very thin underneath, because when you go into the shops, bars and museums… you are going to need it! People there are very used to being well wrapped up outdoors, but indoors the heating is on full blast, so if you do not want to roast or freeze, take our word for it!
WinterWonderland, an absolute must
Seeing it from a distance is already a dream come true. But once you go through the gate, you are transported to a magical world, an illusion, a fantasy. At the Winter Wonderland fair you can go on brilliant fun rides and buy all sorts of things (food, decorations, toys, jewellery…). Drink mulled wine, or an ice-cold beer. Of course there is no shortage of food stalls, so you never have to leave. And if you are one of those people who cannot leave a fair without trying to win a cuddly toy, there are plenty of stalls where you can have a go.
Harrods, decorations and magic
Another place that cannot be missing from your list is Harrods. It is one of the biggest and most famous department stores in the world. The truth is that even if you are not going to buy anything, do go and have a wander, because the lights are beautiful, the decorations inside are something else, and it is a place where you will see things you have never seen before in your life.
Hamleys, the most magical toy shop in the world
Your age does not matter. Hamleys is the perfect place to discover in London whatever age you are. As soon as you walk in you will see flying toys handled by the shop assistants, cars racing along the ceiling and magic tricks everywhere. If you love Lego, there is an almost exclusive floor where you will have a whale of a time. Once you step into Hamleys, all sense of time disappears.
Natural History Museum
Another place to go, whatever the time of year. London’s Natural History Museum is a fantastic place to visit, with or without children. Dinosaurs, an earthquake simulator, science, history, planets… A whole wonderful world waiting to be discovered.
Picadilly and Oxford Street
And of course, do not forget to walk along these famous streets, take a thousand photos and hop on a double-decker bus. The experience is lovely whether it is cold, hot or snowing.
